突然の話だった。彫刻に見立てた家の南側の田んぼが全て宅地化されると。一部の田んぼは持ち主がご高齢のため、完全に止まっていたし、台風の影響か母屋は完全に崩れトラクターが雨晒しになっていた。それ以外の田んぼは順調に動いているように見えていた。このまちは移住者が多く、農家の高齢化を考えれば、田んぼの風景はなくなっていくだろうと思っていたが、広大な農地が宅地化された。まるで異なる気団が触れ合う前線に立っているかのように、人々の異なる現実や思い、企みによる社会や自然との関わりとその変化をはっきりと体感することができた。このような変化は月日が経てば何事もなかったように忘れ去られていく。私は彫刻家の家からその変化を見届け、映像作品として残そうと思った。
そして、この映像作品は現在も続いている。
It was a sudden occurrence. The fields on the southern side of the house, resembling sculptures, were all being converted into residential areas. Some of the fields had been completely stagnant due to the advanced age of their owners, and the main house had collapsed, perhaps due to the effects of a typhoon, leaving the tractor exposed to the elements. Despite this, other fields seemed to be thriving. This town had seen a significant influx of migrants, and considering the aging population of farmers, I had anticipated the disappearance of the rural landscape, but the vast farmland was being turned into residential areas instead. It felt as though I stood on the frontline where different spheres of existence intersected, where I could clearly perceive the varied realities, thoughts, and schemes of people and the changes in their interactions with society and nature. Such changes tend to be forgotten as time passes, as if they had never happened. I decided to witness these changes from the perspective of a sculptor's house and preserve them as a film.
And so, this film project continues to this day.
